About HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandated changes in federal regulations governing the provision of health benefits, delivery and payment of health care services, and security and confidentiality of patient health information. The federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) oversees the implementation of these regulations, including rules regarding patient privacy that became effective on April 14, 2003.

Our practice is committed to protecting the medical information we keep on record about a patient's care and treatment. The Notice serves to indicate the ways in which we may use and disclose medical information, and describes the rights and obligations surrounding such use and disclosure.

Folsom Pain Management abides by all state and federal laws related to the protection of patient information. We are required by law to:

  • Ensure medical information is properly protected;
  • Provide a Notice describing our legal responsibilities and privacy practices pertaining to any medical information;
  • Follow the terms of the Notice currently in effect;

More information about HIPAA is available online at the California HealthCare Foundation website.

A copy of our office's Privacy Notice outlining the use of patient medical information is always available from our website.
